Russell Westbrook traded to Rockets for Chris Paul, picks

Less than a week after Paul George was dealt to the Los Angeles Clippers, Russell Westbrook is reportedly on the move. The Oklahoma City Thunder had been shopping him, and up until news broke, the Miami Heat appeared to be the favorites to trade for the guard.

Among the other teams reportedly interested were the Houston Rockets — which is exactly where Westbrook is heading according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski and Royce Young.

In return, the report indicates the Thunder will receive Chris Paul, first-round picks in 2024 and 2026, and pick swaps in 2021 and 2025. Westbrook will be reunited with former Thunder teammate James Harden.

This marks the end of Westbrook’s 11-year career in Oklahoma City. Had he stayed with the Thunder and Miami’s Udonis Haslem retired, Westbrook would have been the longest-tenured player on one team in the NBA.

In his career with the Thunder, Westbrook was All-NBA and an All-Star eight times, a two-time scoring champion, and the 2017 league MVP.
