Woj: Tyson Chandler has signed a 1-year deal with the Rockets

A day after the Houston Rockets made a blockbuster trade that sends Chris Paul and picks to Oklahoma City for Russell Westbrook, the team announced that it is bringing in veteran center Tyson Chandler on a one-year deal.

According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Rockets had been recruiting Chandler for weeks, and the addition of Westbrook was finally enough to convince Chandler to join the team in Houston.

Chandler will enter his 19th season in the NBA and has played for the Bulls, Hornets, Knicks, Suns, Mavericks, Bobcats and most recently the Lakers, where he played 48 games and started six times.

Chandler is still a decent defensive center who can run the floor and finish in P&R sets. He’s a low usage, low touch center and will fit perfectly for what the Rockets are trying to do on both ends of the floor.

The Rockets struggled with their frontcourt rotations when Clint Capela was out or sitting, and after losing Nene and potentially Kenneth Faried, Chandler is a huge signing for the team.
