Woj: Klay Thompson underwent successful ACL surgery today in L.A.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reports that Golden State Warriors shooting guard Klay Thompson has had successful surgery on his torn ACL. Thompson tore his ACL in the Warriors’ Game 6 Finals loss to the Toronto Raptors on June 13.

Neither the team nor Thompson’s representatives have commented on the two-week delay between the injury and surgery. However, it is commonplace for physicians to hold off surgery until swelling in the injured area subsides. Additionally, Thompson’s surgery could have been delayed in part due to his contract negotiations with the Warriors.

On Monday, Thompson agreed to the five-year, $190 million deal he was hoping for. He wasn’t eligible for a supermax contract because he was not named to the All-NBA Team. But the Warriors appear to have made up for that by including in his contract a 15 percent trade kicker.

Prior to going under the knife, Thompson took to his Instagram to share his delight about returning to Golden State, stating that he never doubted the organization would come through for him.
