Former Boston Celtics champion point guard Rajon Rondo has been bought out by the Memphis Grizzlies after being traded there by his former team, the Los Angeles Clippers, according to ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski. Rondo is reportedly likely to join the Los Angeles Lakers to fill one of their final roster spots, rejoining the longtime Celtics rivals in his quest for a third NBA title barring surprises.
The Kentucky product won his first of course with the Celtics in 2008, and his second with Los Angeles in 2019. the move would put to bed fan speculation on the possibility of an unlikely reunion that was never especially probable given the Celtics’ current backcourt crunch.
The 35-year-old veteran floor general would join one of the oldest teams in the league as he reunites with former teammates LeBron James and Anthony Davis, with players like Marc Gasol, Dwight Howard, Trevor Ariza and Carmelo Anthony all likely to see significant playing time.

Rondo will likely come off the bench behind Russell Westbrook — himself 32 years old — and Kendrick Nunn, the latter of whom will likely eat up a fair amount of regular-season minutes to keep the Louisville native fresh for the postseason should Woj’s reporting reflect the Lakers’ and Rondo’s plans.
