Woj: Celtics’ forward Grant Williams had surgery on left hand

According to new reporting from ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, reserve Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams had surgery on his left hand “that’s expected to have him fully recovered for the start of NBA training camp in the fall.”

The Charlotte native played through the injury, which he sustained in March, given the urgency of the team making a deep playoff run, per Woj. Williams is a restricted free agent whose time with the Celtics could come to an end if the onetime Tennessee player gets an outlandishly large offer sheet.

Barring such an unlikely outcome, he will likely re-sign with the club that drafted him, and he should be able to take the court for Boston or any team he’s signed with.

The news might help explain Williams’ light use late in the season and in the postseason, a baffling situation to those without knowledge of the injury.
