Woj: Brad Stevens reportedly turned down 7 years, $70 million to coach Indiana

Indiana native and former Butler University head coach Brad Stevens recently had an opportunity to bolt back to the college ranks to coach a potential dream job for a native son of that state, the Indiana University men’s basketball head coaching position.

Stevens shot down that possibility in no uncertain terms, but it recently came to light he passed on what was a fairly substantial offer above and beyond any sentimental trapping that might have otherwise attracted him. ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski recently reported that “In that Indiana University job that opened a few weeks ago, I was told that Indiana was prepared to offer him seven years, $70 million dollars.”

That, of course, did not happen.

While terms of Stevens’ current deal are unknown, he was lured away from Butler in 2013 for six years and $22 million, so it’s reasonable to assume his current deal is at least at or above that level now.

But whatever the current figure garnered by the Celtics head coach, one thing seems to be certain: this is where he plans to stay.
