Things aren't going according to plan for Everton at the moment after three defeats in their last four games — and now the internet has taken to mocking the club's dismal form.

The Toffees welcome Manchester City to Goodison Park on Wednesday night with manager Marco Silva feeling the heat after watching his side lose 3-1 at home to Wolves.

As if their luck couldn't be worse — the Goodison Cat made an appearance on Sunday — it seems Google has picked up on the turbulent times on Merseyside.

Everton fans may have been searching for ways to soothe their woes on the internet but even eagle-eyed fans would have been surprised to discover a subtle dig aimed at their club from the search engine website.

When you type in the word "woe" on Google, a list of synonyms, definitions and descriptions appear. Using the word as an example in a sentence, Google appear to judge Everton's plight is a perfect example of a dire situation.

Google's description reads: "The Everton tale of woe continued" and they might not be wrong, with their consistent mid-table finishes of 11th, 11th, seventh and eighth in the past four Premier League seasons.

Having spotted the humorous description, Everton fans reacted mostly in agreement.

Some labelled the discovery as "peak Everton", while others commended the website. "Even Google know", wrote one Twitter user.

The silver lining for supporters is that if they beat Manchester City, they will secure a morale-boosting victory.

While a loss may be bad for squad morale, at least then they can pass the "woe" onto fierce rivals Liverpool in their title challenge by helping City return to the top of the table.
