WNBA star Brittney Griner is headed to a medical facility in San Antonio following her release Thursday from a Russian prison in a dramatic, high-level prisoner swap, according to CNBC.
Quoting a senior official in the Biden administration, CNBC said she will be flown to the facility to receive care. Her wife, Cherelle Griner, will meet her there, according to the report.
“She’s safe, she’s on a plane, she’s on her way home,” Biden said from the White House Thursday, alongside Cherelle.
The official did not say specify which medical facility, but Lackland Air Force Base is the largest military facility in San Antonio.
Griner, a Houston native, was expected to arrive in the U.S. within 24 hours.
Griner was arrested at a Moscow airport in February when customs officials said they found vape canisters with cannabis oil in her luggage.
In exchange for her freedom, the U.S. released notorious Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout.
