'WKD on tap?': Homeowner baffled as bright blue water runs from kitchen pipes

A woman has described the moment she was left baffled by bright blue water running from her kitchen taps.

The homeowner - who did not wish to be named - made the bizarre discovery in Tottington today (February 15).

Following reports of an outage in the area, the water turned an odd shade of electric blue - likened to the alcopop drink WKD.

The 36-year-old told the Manchester Evening News : “At first I thought it was a reflection of our blue washing up bow until I held the jug to the window.

“I went upstairs to wake my husband up to ask him if he had ever heard of blue tap water.

“I figured it was linked to the fact the water was off but wasn't sure how.

“My neighbours and I have had no water all morning due to a leak on Market Street.

“I think it was near the Bobbles salon and had been going all night so we woke up to no water."

But, according to the homeowner, it turned out to be an isolated incident - believed to be caused by blue water from the toilet finding its way elsewhere.

She added: “It’s looking increasingly likely that the drop in water pressure due to the outage has caused back syphoning which has led to the blue water in our toilet cistern being redirected to our kitchen tap.”

Although United Utilities believe the incident is isolated to the Tottinton home, engineers will be investigating the incident to make sure there are no wider implications.

A spokesperson said: “We believe this is an isolated incident and is likely to be an internal plumbing issue.

“Our water quality team is going to take a sample so we can investigate further.”

Members of the What's on in Tottington, Greenmount and Walshaw Facebook page were quick to comment on the bizarre colour of the water.

One said: “WKD on tap... Is this lockdown treats?”

Another added: “WKD? Amazing”
