No-frills airline Wizz Air is resuming flights to the latest green list destinations with routes to Majorca, Malta and Madeira taking off this week - and recruiting for new staff to help with the expected travel boom.
Flights will operate from Luton airport in addition to existing services to Reykjavik in Iceland and Gibraltar.
Daily services to Palma de Mallorca begin on Wednesday, followed by a twice-weekly link to Madeira from July 3 and four flights a week to Malta from July 15.
In response to the extra flights, Wizz Air is also taking on new crew members as it increases capacity for the summer from its UK bases at Luton, Gatwick, Doncaster Sheffield and Cardiff.
Wizz Air UK managing director Owain Jones said: “The Wizz Air team welcomes the announcement from the UK government that more destinations have been added to the green list and that fully vaccinated travellers will be able to return from amber destinations without quarantining later this summer, meaning our customers have more choice when deciding on their long-awaited post-lockdown getaway.
“We encourage the government to add more European destinations to the green list, using a risk-based approach, to get more people travelling again and to provide a much-needed boost to local economies, both in the UK and abroad.
“We know the demand is there, and we are ready and prepared to quickly ramp up our operations for the summer.”
Wizz Air is also boosting operations from its bases across Europe, including Italy, Greece and Albania.
The airline will base two Airbus A321 aircraft at Naples airport for August and September 2021 to operate 18 new services to nine countries. These will complement eight routes already-operated 8 routes from Naples airport, which is Wizz Air's sixth base in Italy.
