After breaking the record for the most Spotify streams in the US over 24 hours, Wiz Khalifa has topped the UK singles chart with his track See You Again.
Featuring Charlie Puth, the Fast and Furious 7 soundtrack rose 21 places to become the fastest-selling single of 2015 so far, with combined chart sales of 193,000 copies. See You Again pays tribute to the late actor Paul Walker, who died in 2013.
Elsewhere on the UK singles charts, Omi’s Cheerleader jumped 25 places to No 2, Jess Glynne dropped from last week’s top spot to No 3 with Hold My Hand, and Spanish DJ Dr Kucho’s collaboration with Gregor Salto, Can’t Stop Playing, was the highest new entry at No 4.
In the UK album charts, Paul Simon’s The Ultimate Collection, released via Sony Commercial Music Group on 14 April, headed straight to No 1. A career-spanning album, it is the first chart-topping LP for the musician since the release of The Rhythm of the Saints in 1990.
The rest of the chart is made up of top five mainstays: James Bay’s Chaos and the Calm is at 2, Ed Sheeran’s X is at 3 and Sam Smith’s In the Lonely Hour is at No 4. The Wombats’ third studio album, Glitterbug, is a new entry at No 5 – the indie group’s second album to enter the top 10 following 2011’s This Modern Glitch.
Glitterbug also charted highly in the vinyl charts, sitting at No 6. Elsewhere reissues soared following this year’s Record Store Day: Manic Street Preachers’ Holy Bible 20 was in at No 1, Biffy Clyro’s Puzzle at No 2, Never Mind the Bollocks by the Sex Pistols at No 3, Happy Mondays’ Pills ‘N’ Thrills and Bellyaches at No 4 while David Bowie’s 1966 capped off the second official vinyl top five.
