As Fast & Furious 7 continues to score multiple box office accomplishments around the world, Wiz Khalifa and Charlie Puth’s track for the film has smashed its own streaming record in its second week at the top of the UK charts.
The Paul Walker tribute See You Again has topped the singles chart for a second week: in its first it became the fastest-selling single of the year so far, and this week it racks 3.72m listens, outdoing last week’s record-breaking total of 3.68m. “I was really honoured to be asked to be a part of this song in paying tribute to Paul Walker. I hope we did him proud,” Khalifa told OfficialCharts.com.
Cheerleader by OMI is now at No 2. Although originally released in 2012, a remix of the track by Felix Jaehn propelled it to No 1 on iTunes in 18 territories and, seeing its potential, Simon Cowell’s label Syco brought the rerelease date of the reggae track forward. Elsewhere in the singles chart, former chart-topper Jess Glynne is at No 3 with Hold My Hand, Clean Bandit are this week’s highest new entry with Stronger, a song featuring Glee’s Alex Newell and Sean Bass, at No 4. Nick Jonas is up one place with Jealous, which re-enters the top 5 this week.
In the album charts, Josh Groban has landed his first No 1 album with Broadway covers album Stages. Despite having seven top 40 LPs during his career, this one has been his most successful in Britain. It features the vocals of Kelly Clarkson, Chris Botti and Audra MacDonald, and covers of songs from Les Misérables, The Wizard of Oz, Carousel, Chess and The Phantom of the Opera.
Former No 1 Paul Simon slides to No 2 with his Ultimate Collection, while the rest of the top 5 are Brit crooners Ed Sheeran, Sam Smith and James Bay.
Alabama Shakes celebrate their second top 10 album this week, with Sound and Color at No 6, an album that also sits at the top of the vinyl charts in its first week of sale.
