Witnesses watched on unaware as toddler, 2, was dying in horrific car fire

A group of people watched on while a car burned not knowing a two-year-old was stuck inside.

The child lost her life after flames engulfed the car as it stood on Ironwood Drive in Kununurra, Western Australia on Sunday morning.

The toddler's four-year-old brother managed to escape the inferno, the West Australian reported.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after being called by witnesses, who did not know the girl was inside.

She was only discovered by fire fighters after they had put out the flames.

A witness told the paper that six people were watching as the car was subsumed by the flames.

She said: "They definitely watched the car, they weren't screaming or trying to do something."

"Because they weren't doing anything I just thought maybe they had set it on fire, it's crazy."

Josie Farrer, who represents the area in the Legislative Assembly of Western Australia, said the tragedy had shocked the community.

"That young age, you just don't know what to say. It's far too young to lose a child of that age. It's too raw an issue to talk about," the politician said.

One of the child's grandparents took to social media to pay tribute to the girl.

They wrote: "Love and miss you my beautiful granddaughter. words cannot explain how much you're going to be missed from us all."

Although the fire is not being treated as suspicious, a crime scene has been established at the home as arson detectives work to find out what cause the inferno.
