A Forde resident was assaulted by a group of people setting off illegal fireworks.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses or footage that could help identify the alleged perpetrators.

On September 6 at 11.40 pm police received reports of fireworks being set off near Jessie Street, Forde.

The offenders fled the scene after assaulting a resident who confronted the group.

The victim was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Consumer fireworks are classed as explosive devices under the Dangerous Substances Act 2004.

Misused fireworks can cause serious injuries and are illegal in the ACT.

ACT police urge Canberrans to report illegal fireworks use to the police due to the danger it poses to the community.

Anyone who might have witnessed the assault or possesses footage of the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or through its website, quoting the reference number 6625204.
