Witnesses come forward after horror crash claims lives of Conor McColgan and Amy English

Several witnesses have come forward to help gardai piece together the moments before a young couple were killed in a crash.

Tributes continued to pour in today for Conor McColgan, 23, and 21-year-old Amy English – the daughter of ousted FAI chief John Delaney’s former partner, Emma.

The lorry driver, 31, arrested after the fatal smash between Slane and Navan in Co Meath on Wednesday, was later released without charge.

Conor and Amy were in a car travelling to Navan when it was in collision with the truck, travelling in the opposite direction on the N51.

An incident room has been established in Navan Garda station and family liaison officers have been appointed.

A Garda spokesman said: “We have got a good response to our appeal to the public. We would also renew our appeal for anyone with dashcam footage to contact us.”

In a Facebook post, soccer club Torro United in Navan, added: “It was with sudden shock and great sadness that we learned of the death of our teammate and club member Amy English.”

Boyfriend Conor was originally from Feeny, Co Derry.

Sinn Fein cllr Sean McGlinchey said: “I know the family very well and Conor was a very polite and lovely young man.”
