Witness tells of 'frightening' city centre attack by large group

A man has told of the moment he witnessed a group 'attacking a young man' in the city centre last night.

Police were called out to Queens Square bus station after a disturbance involving a group of people.

A witness told the ECHO that he saw a young man being attacked by a group of boys and girls outside St John's shopping precinct last night (Wednesday)

The witness, who was on a bus, said he saw the young man being "stomped on" by the group during the attack. He described the attack as "cowardly and frightening."

Police confirmed they were called out to Queens Square at around 7.30pm following reports of a disturbance. The spokesperson said that two people suffered injuries that did not require hospital treatment.

A man 27 , was removed from the city centre and a teenage girl was told to leave the area.

A police spokesman said: "We were called to Queens Square bus station in Liverpool city centre at around 7.30pm last night, Wednesday 16th June, following reports of a disturbance involving a group of people.

"It is reported that a male and female suffered superficial injuries during the incident which did not require hospital treatment.

"A 27 year-old male was removed from the city centre and taken back to his home address and a 17 year-old female was advised to leave the area."
