Witness describes 'horrible' hit-and-run opposite Co-op in St George

An eyewitness to a hit-and-run in Bristol has described the “horrible” moment he thought someone had been killed.

Bristol Live understands a man in his 20s was struck by a car on Church Road, St George, at around 9.30pm yesterday (December 5).

Pavol Krajnik, 45, says he saw the shocking incident unfold opposite the Co-op store while he was sitting just yards away.

He said: “It was horrible - what I saw was horrible… I was thinking the man might have died after the driver hit him.

Police, who are linking the collision with a report of a theft from the Co-op, said the injured man is being treated in hospital for damage to his arm.

We are reporting updates on this incident here.

Mr Krajnik told Bristol Live he was sitting on some steps opposite the Co-op last night when he heard a commotion.

He said he saw two men run out of the shop and kick a car parked in front of Bethel Church.

The driver of the vehicle then mowed one of the men over, before speeding off westwards down Church Road, Mr Krajnik said, who added the other man followed the vehicle on foot.

Mr Krajnik said he gave a statement to the police last night and this morning, too.
