Witness appeal after thieves rob petrol station of hundreds of pounds in Hamilton

Police are appealing for witnesses after a petrol station was robbed in Hamilton.

The incident happened around 5.20am this morning at the BP Service Station on Burnbank Road.

Two men entered the service station, threatened a staff member and stole a three-figure sum of cash along with a large quantity of cigarettes of assorted brands.

They made off in the direction of the Burnbank/Whitehill area.

The first man is described by officers as around 6ft tall, slim build with a local accent. He was wearing a dark coloured hooded top.

The second man is around 5ft 2in tall with a fat stocky build. He was wearing a grey Nike zipper top, blue medical face mask and dark sunglasses.

Detective Constable Colin Stark, of Cambuslang CID, said: "The staff weren't injured but it was extremely frightening for them and we're appealing for the public's help.

"Anyone with information about this incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously around that time, please contact us on 101 quoting incident number 0470 of 4 September. Alternatively, information can be given anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
