Witness appeal after Greenock 'disturbance' as man is hospitalised

Police are appealing for witnesses after a 'disturbance' in Greenock where a man was found seriously unwell.

We told how emergency services raced to a retail park in the Inverclyde town just before 2pm on Saturday.

Police closed down the car park, just off Custom House Quay where a man had 'taken unwell'.

The 64-year-old was rushed to Inverclyde Royal Hospital for treatment.

Medics say he is in a serious but stable condition.

Officers believe another man, thought to be in his twenties, was involved in the incident.

They do not think there was any physical contact between the two men and that the 64-year-old became unwell due to medical reasons.

Police would like to speak to the other man as part of their investigation into the incident.

The younger man is described as being in his mid to late twenties, of a slim build and around five foot, ten inches tall.

He was wearing a grey top at the time of the incident.

Detective inspector David Wagstaff said: "We're appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident and who hasn't already spoken to officers to come forward.

"In particular, we are appealing to the second man involved to get in touch with officers as soon as possible."

Witnesses are asked to contact 101, quoting the reference number 1820 of September 26.
