Without a tender, Ravens CB Stanley Jean-Baptiste set to become a free agent

Baltimore Ravens cornerback Stanley Jean-Baptiste is set to hit the open market after the team elected to not tender his contract as a restricted free agent.

Entering the league as a second-round selection by the New Orleans Saints in 2014, Jean-Baptiste has had a turbulent career ever since. Released in the middle of his second season with the Saints, Jean-Baptiste bounced around on four different teams’ practice squads before landing with Baltimore in 2017. Jean-Baptiste initially joined the Ravens in October 2017 as a member of the practice squad, but was later promoted to the active roster in December. He appeared in only one game for the Ravens and notched a single tackle.

Jean-Baptiste had a promising preseason in 2018 — snagging interceptions in back-to-back games — but ultimately saw his season end before it even began after breaking his arm in Baltimore’s preseason finale.

The Ravens gave their other two restricted free agents — defensive tackle Michael Pierce and linebacker Patrick Onwuasor — second-round tenders. With that designation, Baltimore is given a chance to match any offer sheets the two may receive from other teams in free agency. Should another team sign one of them away, the Ravens would receive a second round pick from that club in return. Otherwise, the two are set to play on $3.095 million deals for Baltimore in the 2019 season.
