Nottingham Forest star Joao Carvalho says he would be willing to take a pay cut to help the club out during the coronavirus crisis.
The football season is currently suspended until further notice due to the COVID-19 pandemic - and clubs are feeling the financial effects.
Forest have already placed some non-playing staff on furlough leave under the Government's Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme.
And players across the country are being asked to take pay cuts or wage deferrals in the wake of the shutdown.
Carvalho was asked about this during an interview with Portuguese media outlet Maisfutebol.
"Until now, we have not been given information about that," he is quoted as saying. "But financially the clubs here (in England) have more stability (than in Portugal).
"The leagues generate a lot of money and this makes them better prepared compared to other countries - but I don't know what will happen."
Asked if he would take a pay cut if necessary, Carvalho replied: "Without a doubt. Right now, everyone has to help and if we did we would be helping a lot of people and saving a lot of jobs."
Carvalho also spoke about his own experience of life under lockdown in the UK.
“I remember two days before the owner (Evangelos Marinakis) tested positive, I greeted him maybe four times," said the 23-year-old.
"At that time, there were not many cases of young people testing positive and even less with consequences.
"I was not too worried, but if it were now I would certainly be much more worried.
"What frightens me are the people who do not comply with the stipulated rules.
"I am not scared about me and my girlfriend, because we are always at home and we take all possible precautions to make sure everything goes smoothly.
"What worries me is that people are not aware that they have to stay at home."
