Yes, her gut has declared that America is on the brink of another 9/11. And what is this latest doomsday prophecy based on? A progressive New York mayoral candidate who happens to be the son of an Indian filmmaker. Her reasoning? Well, she didn’t really offer any—just a vague, ominous feeling in her gut that Zohran Mamdani is somehow going to usher in chaos of historic proportions.

We are without a doubt going to have another 9/11.
I just have such a bad feeling about this.
He’s been making news as a progressive candidate focusing on housing affordability, rent freezes, and free public transportation. To Loomer, his mere existence is enough to predict a terrorist attack of 9/11 proportions. This isn’t exactly new territory for Loomer, whose career has largely been built on stoking fear and outrage. Her modus operandi is simple: find a minority, preferably an immigrant or a Muslim, and accuse them of being a threat to national security. Bonus points if she can tie it to a hot-button issue like terrorism or immigration.
Remember when Loomer got banned from Uber and Lyft for demanding that they remove Muslim drivers from their platforms? Or when she handcuffed herself to Twitter’s headquarters in protest of being banned from the platform, only to hilariously forget to bring enough supplies to last more than a few hours? Loomer’s stunts are as predictable as they are absurd, and this latest outburst is no exception.
What’s particularly galling about this 9/11 comment is how casually it weaponizes one of the darkest days in American history. Nearly 3,000 people lost their lives in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, and millions more were forever changed. It’s a tragedy that deserves solemn reflection, not exploitation for cheap political points. Yet here we are, watching Loomer use it as a rhetorical cudgel against a man whose biggest crime, as far as we can tell, is wanting to make rent a little less soul-crushing.
So why is Loomer going after Mamdani specifically? The answer lies in his identity and his politics. As the son of an Indian filmmaker and a Ugandan immigrant, Mamdani represents the kind of multicultural, progressive vision of America that Loomer and her ilk find deeply threatening. Add to that his democratic socialist platform, which calls for taxing the wealthy and expanding public services, and you’ve got the perfect target for far-right fearmongering.
