With Toews out, Blackhawks defeat Ducks, 3-2

ANAHEIM, Calif. _ The Blackhawks survived their first game without Jonathan Toews.

They held on to defeat the Ducks, 3-2, on Friday at the Honda Center as Corey Crawford made 34 saves.

Toews was out because of an upper-body injury he suffered in Wednesday's game against the Sharks. Toews could still play Saturday against the Kings, coach Joel Quenneville said.

The Hawks got off to a slow start, but were first on the board thanks to Artem Anisimov's ninth goal of the season.

The sequence began with nice stretch pass from Brent Seabrook to Patrick Kane. Kane and Anisimov executed a give-and-go on their ensuing 2-on-1. Kane's initial shot was stopped by Ducks goatlender John Gibson, but Kane and Anisimov kept poking at the loose puck until it went in off Anisimov's stick.

In Toews' absence, Vincent Hinostroza is skating on the top line with Ryan Hartman and Marian Hossa.

The Hawks extended their lead in the second period on a power-play goal from Kane. Kane one-timed a shot from the right circle off a feed from Seabrook at 6:47 that beat Gibson high.

The Hawks took a 3-0 lead on Ryan Hartman's fifth goal of the season later in the period. Marcus Kruger stripped the puck from a Ducks player and the puck floated over to Hartman, who beat Gibson at 15:40.

The Ducks got on the board just 10 seconds later when Nick Ritchie beat Corey Crawford from the slot just moments after the ensuing faceoff.

The Ducks got a third-period goal from Jakob Silfverberg but it wasn't enough.
