With Todd Gurley out, Rams run it 7 straight times to open game vs. 49ers

The Los Angeles Rams are without Todd Gurley on Sunday against the 49ers, and Sean McVay apparently saw that as an opportunity to run the ball down San Francisco’s throat. After getting a stop on the 49ers’ first drive of the game, the Rams took over from their own 44-yard line and flexed their muscle.

McVay called seven running plays in a row as the Rams marched down the field and scored a touchdown to take a seven-point lead. It featured five runs for 40 yards by Malcolm Brown and two carries for 16 yards by Robert Woods.

Woods is the one who found the end zone, scoring on an 8-yard run.

It was a touchdown of firsts for the Rams. This was Woods’ first score of the season, while it was also the first time the Rams scored on their opening possession, as well. It’s also their first first-quarter touchdown since last December.

Strangely enough, it was the first time San Francisco allowed a rushing touchdown all season.
