With Thielen extension, Vikings double down on offense

The Vikings inked wide receiver Adam Thielen to a four-year $64 million contract on Friday afternoon.

With the move, the Vikings furthered their financial commitment to the offensive side of the ball.

Last season, the Vikings signed wide receiver Stefon Diggs to a five-year, $72 million deal. They also, of course, gave quarterback Kirk Cousins a three-year $84 million guaranteed contract.

With this trio, the Vikings are going all in offensively. And while that sounds scary, the Vikings didn’t really have much of a choice. Regarding Thielen and Diggs’ contract, those were about market value and Thielen was grossly underpaid last season.

As for the Cousins deal, you can argue whether the Vikings should have made that signing, but I don’t think you can argue whether or not he’s an upgrade over Case Keenum or Teddy Bridgewater.

The Vikings also signed guard Josh Kline this offseason and I wouldn’t be surprised if they drafted an offensive lineman in the first round.
