With the Texans open to trading Jadeveon Clowney, should the Eagles have interest?

As we are learning in today’s NFL, you can never have enough quality guys to rush and harass the passer and Houston Texans star linebacker, Jadeveon Clowney, is one of the best in the business. One day after the Seahawks traded defensive end Frank Clark to the Chiefs because the two side couldn’t agree on the franchise tag, Chris Mortensen of ESPN.com is reporting that the Texans are open to trading Clowney.

The talented pass rusher has not signed his franchise tag tender and the two sides are reportedly far off in negotiations.

Clowney is set to make $15.967 million this season on the franchise tag.

Howie Roseman does his due diligence on everyone, and he definitely should inquire about Clowney, who was the first overall pick in 2015 and has amassed 18.5 sacks in Houston over the last two seasons after some early struggles. Clowney could fit the Eagles from a scheme point of view, and even though the versatile pass rusher is listed as an outside linebacker, he could be moved all over the defensive front by Jim Schwartz.

With Carson’s Wentz contract extension looming on the horizon, such a trade an impending extension for clowney would be difficult, especially at the salary he’d prefer. After struggling as rookie, Clowney has made three Pro Bowl trips and was named a first-team All-Pro in 2016.
