With Shamar Stephen gone, Seahawks in hunt for defensive tackle

Former Seahawks defensive tackle Shamar Stephen spent one year in Seattle before returning to Minnesota this March at the start of free agency.

With Stephen back with the Vikings, the Seahawks have an opening to fill on the defensive line.

Coach Pete Carroll appeared on 710 ESPN Seattle’s John Clayton Show Wednesday to discuss the team’s need at the position.

“I think that’s a clear-cut area for us,” Carroll admitted. “We’ve always had a real large guy that can fill in for us in there. Poona Ford did a great job last year and he grew into our affection, man, we like the way he finished up, he was so active and such a good motor. J-Reed is a fine player, too.

“But I think it’s really important for us to continue to find another guy with Shamar going on.”

Seattle certainly has the means to address the spot and can look to either free agency or April’s NFL Draft.
