With retirement, Malcolm Mitchell shares special message to New England

Retired New England Patriots receiver Malcolm Mitchell met with ESPN’s Mike Reiss to reflect on his career after the 25-year-old announced his retirement. Mitchell shared a conclusive thought with Reiss about his tenure with the Patriots and in the NFL.

“You know, I am not 100 percent sure where I will end up in life,” Mitchell said in the sit-down interview. “With football, it is easy to see into the future and build an idea of where you want to end up. With that gone, it has been a little hazy to see where I will end up. But one thing I hope people in New England know is that I made sure I went out a Patriot.”

Mitchell played just one NFL season in the NFL while plagued with a chronic knee problem. He finished that season with 32 receptions for 401 yards and four touchdown catches. He also logged six catches for 70 yards in the Patriots’ win in Super Bowl LI. In the years that followed, he was unable to get on the field before the Patriots cut him. He never found another team, because of those knee issues.
