Like the rest of Chicago, Bears coach Matt Nagy was glued to the first two episodes of The Last Dance, ESPN’s 10-part documentary on the 1997-98 Bulls. Now that the NFL Draft is over, he’s in clear to hunker down in front of the TV again Sunday night.
“You know I am,” he said. “It’s unbelievable. I think I heard somebody else say they could have watched all 10 episodes back-to-back-to-back, and I was the same way.”
Nagy has always enjoyed sports other than football and played basketball in high school in Pennsylvania. He has also become friends with Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski.
He has passed that on to his kids, and they’ve been equally interested in the Bulls series. His youngest came up to him after the draft ended Saturday and reminded him the show resumes Sunday, though Nagy probably would’ve remembered on his own eventually.
“It’s just amazing,” he said. “What a great time to see possibly the greatest athlete to ever play and just the way he handled his teammates, his opponents, the amount of competitiveness he had. There’s not another person that I’ve talked to in the sports world that didn’t get fired up about that whole deal.”
Episodes 3 and 4 will air Sunday, followed by two episodes each of the next three Sundays.
