With Matty Longstaff days away being able to talk to European clubs - here's Steve Bruce on his future

Steve Bruce is hopeful that Newcastle United can "sort out" Matty Longstaff's contract situation sooner rather than later - with the midfielder just days away from being able to discuss a summer deal with European clubs.

The teenager had not played since October but stepped into the side to score his second goal against Man United this season.

Longstaff's celebration - after silencing the Stretford End - was to demonstrate he had ice in his veins and was able to step into any given situation.

But, as it stands, the Magpies still face the concerning situation of losing Longstaff for just £400,000 (what would be a compensation fee) in the summer.

With clubs from Germany expressing an interest, Bruce was asked about the midfielder's future.

Bruce said: "That's for people to sort out.

"I'd like to of course.

"He's played four times now and scored twice against Man United!

"The kid has got a bright future.

"He wants to do well and I hope he succeeds."
