The Boys season 5 finale airs in just one week, but fans aren't very happy with the second-to-last ever episode. Spoilers for season 5 are ahead.
The episode, 'The Frenchman, the Female, and the Man Called Mother's Milk,' holds a user rating of just 7.1 on IMDb, which ties it for dead last with season 4, episode 2, 'Life Among the Septics.'
The highest rated episode of the show is season 3, episode 6, 'Herogasm,' which holds a rating of 9.6.
The latest episode of season 5 saw a major death when Homelander killed Frenchie, but it wasn't enough to satisfy fans, who have been critical of the brief Gen V cameos and left wondering how everything will wrap up in the 65-minute finale.
Some viewers have also been outspoken against "filler" in the final season, especially for season 5 episode 4, though creator Eric Kripke has pushed back.
"None of the things that happen in the last few episodes will matter if you don't flesh out the characters," Kripke commented. "I'm getting a lot of online dissatisfaction, to put it politely. And I'm like, 'What are you expecting? Are you expecting a huge battle scene every episode?' One, I can't afford that. And two, it would be so empty and dull, and it would just be about shapes moving without having any import."
While The Boys has just one episode left before the end, the universe of the VCU will live on in upcoming spin-off Vought Rising, as well as the planned Boys: Mexico. Gen V, however, is no more: it was canceled after just two seasons.
