With JC Tretter signed, what Browns will be free agents after 2019?

Now that starting center JC Tretter is locked up through 2022 with a new 3-year contract extension, the number of pending free agents from the 2019 Cleveland Browns looks less foreboding. Tretter was arguably the most important player whose contract was set to expire after the season.

Now that distinction falls to Pro Bowl linebacker Joe Schobert. The team’s third-round pick in 2016 has played every defensive snap in the last two seasons and currently ranks second in the NFL in solo tackles through Week 9. Schobert just turned 26 this week and figures to command a significant raise over his current salary of just over $2 million.

Safety Damarious Randall and left tackle Greg Robinson are the only other regular starters who will be unrestricted free agents. Defensive backs Eric Murray and Juston Burris, who play regular roles to varying degrees based on health in the secondary, are also playing on expiring contracts.

Running back Kareem Hunt is the most prominent of the restricted free agents. His contractual status is funky due to his suspension, but Hunt will be an exclusive rights free agent. That is also the status for RB Dontrell Hilliard and TE Pharaoh Brown.

Restricted free agents include OL Justin McCray and TE Ricky Seals-Jones.
