With excitement comes pressure.. Everton's Marco Silva must get things right this season

Chris Douglas, Old Swan

Pre-season is finally over and weekends finally have meaning again now. Everton – rather than boredom – can ruin them.

Writing this the Tuesday before transfer deadline day, I can only hope we manage to sign a central defender – ahem, hello Kurt – and and maybe a winger who wins lots of penalties before VAR ruins football forever.

The loss of Gueye and his impact is difficult to gauge until we see what Gbamin is like. He has barely had a pre-season with us and must be given time to settle in. The same applies to the man many of us hope is finally the replacement for Lukaku, Moise Kean. He could be brilliant straight away but if he isn’t we must stick with him.

Marco Silva just needs to show we are progressing and Palace, with or without Zaha, should hold no fears. Keep on keeping on.

With the new season just days away, excitement is finally beginning to grow among Everton fans.

After a slow start to the summer, the Blues have produced some smart business in the last few weeks, with the signing of Moise Kean the highlight.

It’s unfair to put too much pressure on Kean, but if he can become half the player he is being tipped to be, then there is no doubting he will be able to improve us.

With this excitement comes pressure, and there is no doubting that Marco Silva must get things right this season.

Last season we saw the good, the bad and the ugly, but this season it simply has to be good.

For Silva’s sake anyway.

The long summer is over and we have finally got the footy back! Evertonians are full of optimism going into the new season with a few good signings like Delph, Gomes and Sidibe and a much-needed striker in Kean.

We need to give Kean time as he is only young but I think he will be another Everton great and provide great competition for Calvert-Lewin.

Marcel Brands has also done a great job in offloading a lot of the dead wood. It is sad to see McCarthy move on but we now have a much stronger squad for the new season.

We need to start the season well and what better way than to get three points at Palace on Saturday – with the new boy Kean getting the winner!

Tommy Gillan, Whiston

Another season dawns, and once again we have reason to be optimistic.

Although it was disappointing to lose Idrissa Gueye, and not able to sign Kurt Zouma on a permanent basis, the signing of Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph and the two latest signings of Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Moise Kean with potentially more to come, I believe, will help realise that optimism.

Our opening fixtures appear to be favourable, so let’s hope we hit the ground running and lay the foundation to compete for a top six position, along with a good cup run.

Silva will continue his quest to strengthen the team and produce a successful side befitting to take us into our magnificent stadium, and make ‘New Goodison’ a fortress.
