With Covid cases dipping in Bengaluru, Palike says worst is over

BENGALURU: With Covid-19 cases ebbing in the city, the number of daily hospitalisations has dropped from 83 to 51 in the past 15 days. BBMP officials felt the worst for this wave is over.

January 21 saw the highest number of hospitalisations — 87 — in15 days. The Palike noticed a steady decline in the number of hospitalisations in the past six days.

Trilok Chandra, BBMP special commissioner (health), said: “With cases dropping, the number of hospital admissions has seen a proportional dip. We hope the numbers will drop further.”

In addition to home triaging that was done through mobile triaging units covering more than 3,000 patients daily, the fact that a significant proportion of the population is fully vaccinated ensured the impact of the third wave is minimal. A meeting held on Wednesday with experts concluded that the peak is over, said chief commissioner Gaurav Gupta.

The Palike, however, urged citizens not to let their guard down and maintain Covid-appropriate behaviour.
