With Colt McCoy named the starter, Jay Gruden finally got a small victory

Things haven’t exactly been going the way that Redskins coach Jay Gruden was hoping they would this season, but at long last, he is finally getting a win.

He finally could name Colt McCoy the starting quarterback on Friday.

After watching Case Keenum attempt to right the ship in Washington, he was later pulled after nine quarters of play, and the rookie, Dwayne Haskins, was put in to fail in his place.

Now, with major questions as to who would be the next player to take the field under fire, Gruden seemed pleased to announced to the media on Friday that it would be McCoy, who has been with the program for six years.

The decision to start McCoy was widely expected, though there was no official word — it was just the obvious choice.  After going down with a broken leg last season, McCoy finally was able to reach full strength this week, just when the Redskins needed him most.

It’s likely that he will be subject to much criticism on Sunday after an tough game that could produce an ugly box score. While Washington may not win here, Gruden does. He’s said all off-season that Colt shouldn’t be counted out, and he’s been quietly propping him up and keeping him in the conversation for months now. At long last, Jay got his guy.
