The Tennessee Titans (10-5) won’t be clinching the AFC South in Week 16 after the Indianapolis Colts (9-6) beat the Arizona Cardinals on Saturday night, 22-16.
The good news for the Titans is that their magic number is down to one. That means Tennessee can clinch simply by winning one of their next two games against the Miami Dolphins in Week 17 or the Houston Texans in Week 18.
However, the Titans can also clinch even if they lose both games if the Colts lose one of their next two contests against either the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 17 or the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 18.
Tennessee and Indianapolis will kick off their Week 17 games at the same time at noon CST.
As far as remaining playoff scenarios in Week 16 go, the Titans are still in position to clinch a spot or re-take the No. 1 seed and control their own destiny for a first-round bye in the playoffs.
Tennessee can accomplish the latter with losses by the Kansas City Chiefs to the Pittsburgh Steelers, and New England Patriots to the Buffalo Bills. The Titans own the head-to-head tie-breaker over the Chiefs, but not the Pats.
After the Cleveland Browns lost to the Green Bay Packers on Saturday, the Titans’ slim hopes of just clinching a playoff spot in Week 16 remain alive.
The Titans would need a Dolphins loss or tie, a Bills loss, a Denver Broncos loss or tie, and either a Steelers loss or a Baltimore Ravens loss or tie.
