'With a heavy heart' another restaurant closes after staff member tests covid positive

A restaurant has had to shut its doors for two weeks following a staff member testing positive for coronavirus.

Eden bistro, which regularly receives top reviews on Facebook and Trip Advisor, announced their decision to temporarily close in a statement posted on the company Facebook page yesterday.

The news comes after The Ship in Lathom Pub in Ormskirk announced yesterday that they would temporarily close after a staff member tested positive.

A spokesperson for Eden said it was with a “heavy heart” to have to close its doors until October 14, but “the health and safety of our staff and customers is paramount”.

They said all staff members would now have to self isolate for 14 days, and Public Health and NHS Track and Trace had been informed.

They said they are following guidance regarding contacting customers and visitors to the restaurant.

A thorough deep clean, they added, would be conducted in the restaurant to enable them to reopen safely in two weeks' time.

In a later post on their Facebook page, the restaurant confirmed it was a kitchen member of staff who had tested positive and had not had direct contact with customers.

They said after speaking to Public Health England and Environmental Health, customers who had been in the restaurant “do not have to self isolate” as they would not have been in direct contact with a member of the kitchen staff.

In the statement, a spokesperson for Eden restaurant said: “Following the guidance and advice, it is with a heavy heart we have to close our doors until the 14th October.

“One of our members of staff tested positive with coronavirus yesterday evening 29th September, we all now need to self isolate for 14 days. The health and safety of our staff and customers is paramount.

“We have informed Public Health and NHS track and trace and are following their guidance for contacting customers and visitors to the restaurant.

“We are working closely with the relevant bodies to ensure we do everything we can to manage this unfortunate incident.

“A thorough deep clean will be conducted within the premises to enable us to reopen safely on 14th October.

“Thank you all for your continued support during these surreal times and we look forward to welcoming you all back as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

The Ship at Lathom in Ormskirk made a similar announcement yesterday on its Facebook page.

A spokesperson for The Ship said the “tough decision” to close until October 13 was made for the “welfare of both our customers and team” being at the forefront of their decision.

They said they had informed Environmental Health teams and NHS Track and Trace, and were working to contact all “relevant customers” that had visited.
