With 2 more deaths, dengue toll mounts to 26 in Mohali

MOHALI: Two people died of dengue in the past 24 hours in the district, taking the toll to 26 in the district, while 30 more cases pushed the tally to 2,221 in 55 days.

The two victims are a 16-year-old girl and a 40-year-old woman from Mataur, said civil surgeon Dr Adarshpal Kaur.

Dengue cases have already gone up six times in 10 months of 2021 as compared to 471 in 2020 and 354 in 2019, according to data provided by the health department, October has seen 1,877 positive cases and 24 deaths, while September had reported 344 cases and two deaths.

The civil surgeon said, “We have an alarming situation on our hands. Anti-dengue drives have already started. But we need cooperation of residents. The number of anti-larvae teams has been increased as our aim is to check the spread of the vector-borne diseases. We have taken 75 samples of which 30 were found positive on Tuesday.”
