PUDUCHERRY: Daily fresh Covid-19 cases touched the all-time high since the outbreak of the infection in the Union territory of Puducherry. The territory reported 2,093 cases even as 256 patients recovered in the last 24 hours ending at 10am on Tuesday taking the total number of active cases to 10,393.
Earlier the territory reported the maximum number of daily fresh Covid-19 cases on May 11 last year (2,049). Only thrice the daily Covid-19 cases crossed 2,000-mark. The territory reported 2,007 fresh cases on May 12 last year.
Of the 10,393 active cases, 10,230 are under home isolation and treatment. Puducherry headquarters reported the maximum fresh cases with 1,715 followed by Karaikal (279), Yanam (54) and Mahe (45). Puducherry headquarters has the maximum active cases with 9,097 followed by Karaikal (1,021), Mahe (161) and Yanam (114).
Three patients - an 81-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman from Puducherry and a 59-year-old man from Karaikal - died of the infection taking the death toll to 1,893. Puducherry headquarters has the maximum fatalities with 1,476 followed by Karaikal (254), Yanam (109) and Mahe (54). The fatality rate of the infection stood at 1.4%.
The weekly positivity rate of the infection in the territory stood at 40.7%, one of the highest in the country. The positivity rate of samples (6,028) tested on Tuesday stood at 34.7%.
The territory has so far reported 1.4 lakh cases of which 1.28 lakh patients recovered registering a recovery rate of 91.3%.
Healthcare authorities have so far tested 20.99 lakh swab samples of which 17.77 lakh samples returned negative. They have so far administered 15.03 lakh doses of Covid-19 vaccine. They have so far administered the first dose to 9.09 lakh people, the second dose to 5.9 lakh people and precaution dose to 2,987. They have administered the first dose to 2,842 people, the second dose to 1,993 people and the precaution dose to 676 in the last 24 hours.
