With 15 picks, the Vikings break record for the most in a seven-round NFL draft

The Dolphins held the record for the most picks in a seven-round NFL Draft when the team had 14 in 1997. The Browns then tied that mark in 2016.

This season, the Vikings one-upped those teams. Minnesota’s 15 picks in 2020 was the most ever in a seven-round NFL Draft, the Star Tribune’s Ben Goessling first reported.

The Vikings’ draft featured four different trades. Minnesota also had two first-round picks in the draft after the team traded away Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills this offseason. One of the picks the Bills gave the Vikings in that trade was the 22nd pick. Minnesota drafted LSU wide receiver with that draft choice.

In what was a pivotal draft for the Vikings due to big offseason losses, Minnesota did a good job of acquiring new players, many of whom could come in and at least earn playing time. I think Jefferson is a good wide receiver two, TCU cornerback Jeff Gladney can compete for a spot out wide, and Boise State offensive tackle Ezra Cleveland could come in and start on the team’s offensive line right away.

There were plenty of players to choose from, and I thought the Vikings did a good job of locating positional needs.
