With 10 Covid deaths in 24 hours, Pune Metropolitan Region toll exceeds 18,000

PUNE: The number of fatalities because of Covid-related complications surged past 18,000 to 18,006 in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) on Tuesday, with 10 more patients succumbing to the infection here in the last 24 hours.

Among the day’s casualties, one death was recorded in the PCMC limits, while PMC and rural parts reported five and four deaths, respectively. So far, the PMC areas have reported 8,622 deaths due to the infection, followed by the rural and Cantonment areas (5,088) and the PCMC limits (4,296).

A report released by the district health officer, Bhagwan Pawar, stated that daily caseload (910) increased above the number of recoveries (812) again in the region on Tuesday.

The rural areas added 407 new cases on Tuesday, followed by 268 in the PMC limits and 226 in the PCMC areas. Among the recoveries, 329 patients were declared cured in Pimpri Chinchwad, 257 in the rural and Cantonment areas and 226 in the PMC limits.

With this, the number of cases has increased above 10.57 lakh in PMR and its recoveries have climbed above 10.29 lakh. The day’s positivity rate stood at 5.12% in the PMC limits, higher than 4.8% of the PCMC limits.

As many as 15,564 samples were checked in the region on Tuesday.

The active caseload continued to stay above 10,000-mark in the region. On Tuesday evening, tally of active patients was at 10,172, marginally less than Monday’s tally of 10,386.
