Witching Hour night time spectacular with pyro coming to Birkenhead Park

A brand new night time spectacular featuring fire, pyrotechnics and live performance will be coming to Birkenhead Park next month.

The Witching Hour has been created by renowned theatre company Periplum based on local residents' stories, memories and urban myths.

Part of Wirral 's Borough of Culture year , the immersive experience will celebrate local tales, memories and folklore, exploring stories of local wise women, magical mythical characters and childhood memories

It is being produced in partnership with Hull-based Absolutely Cultured and will premiere in Hull's East Park before heading to Birkenhead from May 17-19 .

What will the spectacular will be like?

As audiences enter at dusk, they will experience spinning tales of alchemy and legend from the two parks.

Featuring live performance, a specially commissioned soundtrack, pyrotechnics and promenading action taking place in and around the audience, The Witching Hour explores local legend and folklore from Birkenhead Park in Wirral and East Park in Hull.

Wirral awarded Arts Council grant to encourage new visitors and engage residents  

The main story remains the same in both locations, but the performances will resonate directly with the two communities through local tales being woven into the narrative.

Lucy Barrow, assistant director for Culture & Visitor Economy at Wirral Council said: "The Witching Hour is going to be an unmissable highlight of 2019, and unlike anything that’s been seen in Wirral before.

"Periplum are renowned for creating extraordinary experiences and this incredible event will create lifelong memories for those who enter The Witching Hour."

When will it take place?

The Witching Hour will take place at Birkenhead Park on the evenings of May 17-19.

The spectacular is free and no booking is required. Performances will begin at 9.45pm and last approximately one hour.
