Wishaw Wycombe Wanderers hope English namesakes can boost their future

hope to form a new long-term partnership with their English counterparts – which could help them find a new permanent home.

The amateur outfit celebrate their 25th anniversary and earlier this month received a visit from representatives of the English League One side Wycombe.

Peter Couhig the nephew of shareholder and perspective new owner Rob visited Lanarkshire to meet the Wishaw committee – which were named after them decades ago.

Peter was presented with a hip flask and friendship trophy which is now being displayed in the Adams Park trophy cabinet.

Alex Richardson hoped that the the knowledge of the businessmen would benefit the amateurs.

They currently have 18 teams including men’s, women’s and youth clubs with over 300 players are among the largest in the area.

However, they have never had a home for all their teams.

Richardson said: “We see it as a really good chance to build ties with the club.

“Although we are the biggest youth community club in the area we don’t have our own stadium.

“We have 18 teams but don’t have a home.

“We know that where Wycombe are in English football they are not spending millions, but they have businessmen who are helping them.

“For us we have been spending, I would estimate, a six-figures some every year on facilities.

“If this friendship with Wycombe can help us with some kind of help and guidance on how to build up an amateur club that would be great.

“It’s a relationship that has been 25 years in the making, and a plans for our own stadium that has been going for just as long.”

The trophy has made it's way to Adams Park (UGC)

The club supremo said there was plans to continue to strengthen the with their League One namesakes – including changing the colours of their away kit.

Richardson said: “There are ways we have thought about building the links between the clubs. We play in different colours from Wycombe, but had thought about releasing an away strip matching their colours.

“We want to keep building this going forward to help our local club.
