Wishaw woman thanks mum for helping her through long Covid battle

After suffering for months with long Covid, Allison McParland has struggled with simple day-to-day tasks.

But her mum, Maureen O’Hear, 64, has supported her all the way and given Allison the help she needs.

After catching coronavirus in November last year, Allison was told she had long Covid a few months later.

Long Covid is when you feel the effects of the virus for much longer than normal.

This includes a shortness of breath and extreme tiredness.

This meant that Allison was unable to perform basic tasks such as house work and cleaning up.

Allison said: “She has been such a great help to our family and has really kept us strong during my illness.

“I can barely walk up the stairs without losing my breath, my mum comes over twice a week and helps with my housework.

“She’ll go to the shops for me and she will bring in what I need from there and really help me.

“I have always been very close to my mum – everyone needs their mum at some point.

“I honestly couldn’t have got through without her.

“Not only has she helped with everything but she has kept the house’s spirits up and kept us strong throughout the situation.”

Allison contacted the Wishaw Press to nominate her mum for our Say It With Flowers competition, to thank her for all the hard work she has done for her.

And we were only happy to oblige, and delivered these stunning flowers to Allison’s sister Elaine’s house. Courtesy of our friends in Pixies Petals in Newmains.

Allison has three kids, Aidan, 15, Lucy, 16, and Ellie, 18 and her mum has made sure they have everything they need.

“We could not have done this without her, she has been so great. We are so thankful for mum,” said Allison.

If you wish to nominate a key worker or loved one for our competition, contact news@wishawpress.co.uk, with details of your nomination.
