Wishaw top cop issues safety message for kids and parents this Halloween

A top cop has issued a safety message ahead of Halloween this Sunday.

Wishaw Area Inspector Alan Mulholland spoke out ahead of the weekend as children from across the area go out guising.

Inspector Mulholland said: “As the weekend approaches and we get closer to Halloween, I wanted to send a message of reassurance to the communities around Wishaw and Shotts regarding safety.

“During the weekend we will have directed patrols throughout the area who will be looking out for all the ‘trick or treaters’ and will also be keeping a watchful eye on anyone out to cause any issues to them.

“We have previously dealt with Halloween goers being challenged for their bags of goodies, these reports will be treated seriously and dealt with as such by our directed patrols.

“I want to remind everyone that this is a time to have fun, dress up and stick with your friends within your local areas to tell jokes or sing a song in return for goodies.

“I want your guising to be safe and therefore I would ask that parents accompany children where possible, take appropriate safety steps regarding times they are doing this and ensure they don’t go too far afield into any areas not known to them.

“In the same token I want to remind everyone that if you intend to go out on Halloween with the purpose of sabotaging someone’s fun then we will be looking out for you.

“Officers will stop and check on anyone acting suspiciously and I would encourage members of the public call us on 101 if they have any concerns.

“We wish everyone a safe and happy Halloween.”
