A Wishaw Taekwondo Club have been celebrating a huge level of success at two recent competitions.

GMAC Martial Arts, based in the VANL building in Kenilworth Avenue, picked a whole host of medals at the World Cup event in Slovenia and the Irish National Championships in Limerick.

Lead instructor John McIlvanney was delighted with the success of his youngsters.

He told Lanarkshire Live : “I have been doing this for 42 years and you still get a great pleasure from seeing them do well.

“You spend a lot of time with them and you can see them growing as people.

“They are a credit to themselves and to the family.”

At the World Cup, Declan McAvoy took silver in sparring while Jaimie Singleton secured two bronzes in the sparring and special technique categories.

Meanwhile, Declan McAvoy also took silver in sparring.

John added: “Lorna was exceptional over in Ireland and she deserves a lot of credit for the work she put in.

“A special mention should also go to Lennon McAvoy, our 16-year-old Black Belt with the club, who travelled with us to Ireland to take part in their first ever Inclusive Taekwondo event.

“Lennon has been training with us for 12 years along side his two brothers Hayden and Declan and dad Gary.
