Wishaw supermarket hunting for dancers for store's "biggest ever charity event"

A Wishaw supermarket is on the lookout for local groups to dance, dance, dance in store to raise cash for charity.

The Tesco Extra store in Belhaven Road are appealing for dance groups to help them raise thousands of pounds next month.

The Dance Beats weekend is set to be the store’s biggest charity event ever.

Tesco Wishaw’s community champion Laura Horswell said: “Across the UK, Tesco are aiming to raise around £2 million through this event. The charities that will benefit will be Cancer Research UK, the British Heart Foundation and Diabetes UK

“In Wishaw we are aiming to hit £1,000 per day which would be a great achievement.

“We have 15 two hour slots over the Friday, Saturday and Sunday from July 19-21.

“If any dance groups would like to be involved they can pop into the store and choose their preferred slots. Up to three can be selected on anyone of the days.

“I’m hoping as many groups as possible will be able to help us out.”

To help launch the event, Laura enlisted the help of talented five-year-old dancer Isla Martin.

Isla, who attends the Jamieson Dance Academy and enjoys Tap, Highland and Ballet, showed off her moves as customers looked on.

Laura added: “It was great to have Isla down to help us out.

“She’s a very talented wee girl.

“For all the groups who take part in the dance event, Tesco will give them their own bag packing afternoon or morning at a later date which means they can raise funds for their own group in store.

“We’ve also created our own dance routine to the song September by Earth, Wind and Fire and we will be putting on a video on our Facebook page so everyone can learn it.”

Any dance groups wishing to take part in the event from July 19 to 21 should contact Laura at the customer service desk within the store. Alternatively find them on Facebook @TescoWishawCommunity.
