Wishaw student receives prestigious award in recognition of outstanding achievement

A Wishaw student has received a prestigious award in recognition of her outstanding achievement in her college course.

Linzi McArthur received the Principal’s Prize for Outstanding Academic Achievement because of her achievements throughout her studies at City of Glasgow College.

The 21-year-old was one of over 3,000 students graduating as the Class of 2020 from one of Scotland’s largest colleges.

The College’s annual winter graduation was held online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and featured a special message by Scotland’s First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, who congratulated the students.

She said: “Getting to this stage in these circumstances, in any circumstances, is a fantastic achievement and you should be very proud.

“Well done to each and every one of you.

“I wish all of you all the best for the future.”

Linzi, who attended Clyde Valley High School, graduates with an HND in Supply Chain Management.

She said: “I am honoured to receive this award.

“It’s great to know that all the hard work has paid off.

“Thank you to the college and staff for giving me this award.”

Paul Little, Principal and Chief Executive at City of Glasgow College, congratulated Linzi on her great achievement.

He added: “I am always delighted to personally congratulate each and every student as we confer their qualifications.

“While our graduation ceremony this year was necessarily virtual, our pride in marking the culmination of learning enhanced, and of technical and professional skills mastered, remains very real.

“The prizes we award at graduation rightly recognise those individuals who excelled in their studies and who stood out as exemplary classmates and students.

“Linzi should be very proud of all her accomplishments and should hold her head high as a City of Glasgow College graduate”.
