Wishaw rockers LaFontaines shoot straight into the album charts top 40

Wishaw rockers The LaFontaines’ latest record “Junior” has shot straight into the top 40 album charts after a successful first week of sales.

The trio have been showcasing their unique hybrid of rap and rock since they started playing together just over 10 years ago, writes Gregor Farquharson

The band consists of Kerr Okan (lead vocals), Jamie Keenan (drums, vocals), and Darren McCaughey (guitar, production).

This is the band’s first time charting, with “Junior” reaching number 33 in Friday’s chart.

The band had a busy release week, playing eight shows across the UK to promote the album.

A sold-out show at St Luke’s in Glasgow the day before the album release kicked off the party.

The band then went on to play all over the UK, including Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dundee.

“Junior” was the band’s best selling album on pre-orders alone and singles “All In” and “Alpha” are some of their most successful tracks on streaming service Spotify, with “Alpha” sitting on a comfortable 650,000 streams.

The album covers a whole range of topics and themes, with tracks like “Alpha” focussed on breaking down the meaning of the stereotypical alpha male.

Other tracks like “Pro” and “Up” are a lot poppier, something the band have been working towards for a while.

Kerr described the album as “the best music they have ever made” and said that album opener “All In” is the best song he has written.

Over the summer the band will be playing a number of festivals in Europe and the UK, as well as supporting Kaiser Chiefs in Montrose and Inverness.

They also head out on a UK tour in September.
