Wishaw Post Office to re-open tomorrow following shock closure

Wishaw Post Office will re-open from tomorrow, it has been confirmed.

The Wishaw Press reported yesterday that people were shocked when they turned up to the Wishaw branch to find it completely shut with no warning.

It has since been confirmed that the store the shop is in was closed due to bot being an essential store.

But the landlord has now said the Post Office will remain open.

A Post Office spokesperson, said: “Wishaw Post Office will be re-opening tomorrow as normal.

"The shop selling non-essential items closed following UK Government advice. However, the shopkeeper has now agreed that the Post Office can re-open as a Post Office is designated an essential retailer by the UK Government.

“We are delighted with this news as we know how important a Post Office is to a community.

"We offer a wide range of essential services including mails and parcels, banking, bill payments and MoneyGram money transfer which remain vital services during the coronavirus pandemic.”

Wishaw's SNP MP, Marion Fellows, was delighted at the news.

She told the Wishaw Press: "“The landlord of the Wishaw Post Office was following the government’s advice and was right to do so by closing the premises.

"We are living in unprecedented times and some disruption will be unavoidable. But I am glad the issue has been quickly rectified and the Post Office will re-open tomorrow."
